World-renowned and leading experts structural engineers Ron Klemencic and Kevin Aswegan gave the inaugural presentation on the Performance Based Seismic Design course @ UANDES.
Ron Klemencic (PE, SE, Hon. AIS, NAC, NAE) is the Chairman and CEO of Magnusson Klemencic Associates (MKA), an award-winning and 185-person, structural and civil engineering firm founded in 1920. He has worked on projects in 29 states in the United States and 25 countries. One of the preeminent high-rise structural engineers practicing today, Ron is known for his leadership and advancement of performance-based seismic design (PBSD) of tall buildings, and was recognized with the 2016 Fazlur Khan Lifetime Achievement Medal awarded by Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat for his engineering excellence of tall buildings and the 2016 American Society of Civil Engineers Ernest Howard Award for leadership in the application of performance-based seismic design methods for tall building structures and his advocacy of this approach throughout the structural engineering profession.
Kevin Aswegan (PE, SE) is an Associate at Magnusson Klemencic Associates. His experience includes significant high-rise building design for structures as tall as 62 stories and in areas of high seismicity such as the states of Washington and California. Kevin’s knowledge of seismic design has made him a resource for MKA as leader of the firm’s Performance-Based Seismic Design (PBSD) Technical Specialist Team, and a key member of technical team on MKA’s Earthquake and Wind.
