The Department of Civil Engineering of the Universidad de Concepcion invited professor Astroza to give the seminar “Structural monitoring: from modal identification to nonlinear finite element model updating”. The talk included the presentation of novel approaches for damage identification and health monitoring of large and complex structural systems subjected to earthquakes. New theoretical developments and applications to experimental data from laboratory specimens and real world structures were discussed and the potential of using vibration data for damage diagnosis was emphasized.
